"The Sleeping Dragon" series comes to mind. A group of college students are thrust into a Dungeon & Dragons world. Those who can do magic as their D&D characters, can do magic in the new world.
These are a great bunch of stories . . . humor, likable characters and how the real "magic" of our world (engineering, chemistry, education and freedom) begin conquering their new world.

My favorite is Mordant's Need (Which is 2 books)
Mirror of Her Dreams
and
A Man Rides Through.
by Stephen R. Donaldson.
Excellent book where a young woman (Terisa) gets mistakenly pulled through her livingroom mirror into Mordant, where magic etc. works.
Very good books.

I found that Diane Duane's A wizard series is pretty good. The main characters become wizards and use wizardry(magic)

Philip Pullman's "His Dark Materials" series, AMAZING!!
Susan Cooper's "The Dark is Rising" series, WONDERFUL!
The first mentioned is a bit more demanding to read but both are just great.
Tamora Pierce's "Circle of Magic" series is great too!

The Leven Thumps series by Obert Skye! Brilliantly written with fantastic imagery. It is technically a children's series, but who cares?!
