too small for a catcher.... baseball is the only sport where size doesnt matter (except catching, where there are many reasons). David Eckstein just won the World Series MVP at 5'7".... so as long as you're not catching and playing the field, and of course if you dont suck, you MIGHT succeed.

You may want to beef up a little there kid. I am 5'11 and I went into college baseball at 185lbs just after high school. I played 3rd base, catchers are usually bigger.
If you can get up to around 170 to 180 you will be fine.

It's your talents, not your size that matter. you gotta bat over 400 and have an excellent fielding percentage to have any hope for a scholarship, but i'd say you're a good enough size for your positions. As long as you can really chunk the ball, your in good shape.

don't listen to these fools...ask urself one simple question who was the MVP of the 2006 World Series.....................................................DAVID ECKSTEIN, hahah they say 5'7 but I've seen him at spring training he's maybe 5'5" how did he win the MVP, hard work dedication, and he probably realized at a young age that he wasn't going to be the clean up power hitter... now Jason Bay of the Pirates is only 5'11" but can produce a lot of power... but what ur goal is my friend is JASON KENDALL at the least... he holds the record for most at bats without a HOMERUN, but he has been a starting catcher for the last 13 years... hitting gap doubles, walking, doing anything to get on base...he's a phenomenal base runner, and a great catcher... if I were u I would drop left field! work on catching, theres really one basic job of a catcher but millions of things to know! so first get involved in ASB at school, its a must, it will teach yuo so much about being a good leader, the most important quality of a catcher... show up to every meeting every practice and every extra thing u can, lead both by example, and work ethic, but dont lead by just talking, u will make enemies very fast.......next, the most important skills to be good at as a catcher is, blocking, throwing out runners (know when and when not to throw), be able to be vocal and take control, know how to communicate with ur pitcher without making him feel discouraged...on offense all u need to do is get on base, catchers can be jason kendall, leadoff, pudge power, yadier molina on base... being small ur probably going to be someone who drops in texas leaguers and just gets on abse a lot... u want to get comfotbale with a hitting stance that is very close to the plate which will get u hit more often AKA ON BASE, maybe switch hit, and learn especially the art of hitting groundballs, flyballs, pull, oppo, or just making contact, that will make u usefull at the middle or bottom of the order to hit and run or sacrifice... you have to be the man, never be nervous to take chances and get urself on a good summer team...one things a lot fo high schoolers think is that there going to get scouted on HS teams..that maybe only works for the 10 teams in each state that are consistanly in the state playoffs, but every other team u should expect much... so get urself on a good team, look at ur competition when u start, its very important u need to be the starting cathcer!!! and scouts will most likely only go to 18+ tournaments, so it will take awhile...when u get to sophomore year, send emails to all of the coaches in your area to come watch your summer team, they wont watch your HS unless they know ur coach personally... also dont forget u dont have to go straight to D-1 if u dont get the offers u like, just settle for a community college in your area, with a good rep, and make sure that they are keeping the coach, never go to a school witha brand new coach... but community colleges are cheaper, and the coaches understand that half of there job is to get u into a college, and good CC's will work very hard to get u there!!! hit my myspace up at myspace.com/dustinacook if u want any more advice, about getting bigger, good woorkouts for baseball players...VERY DIFFERENT THEN FOOTBALL, books to read, anything, I work for an academy in seattle, washington, and have a lot of things that can help u out...its my job!
