Only the ions of an atom. Such as NaCl (Sodium Chloride - SALT). An atom is neutral but if it loses an electron in becomes a positively charged ion. If it loses a proton, it becomes a negaticely charged ion.

An ionic solid would be an ionic compound. It is made up of negatively charged ions.
