signs a two year contract, and plays the whole first year, but in the off-season, he gets injured that will sit them out for the next year, do they have to play the third year without changing anything in the contract?? And if they can go wherever they want the third year, even though they didn't play the second year, do they get their full salary for the second year?

Hey there.... Salaries are garanteed in the MLB, regardless of the health status of players. At the end of the contract, players and teams get together and negociate a new contract. So if a player signed a 2 year contract, played the first season and didnt play the second season because an injury, the team has to pay him the money and start a new contract for the next season. NBA, NHL, NFL and other leagues follow these rules, these contracts.

Now, some teams offer a contract with incentives, that means that the team pays the player a small amount(basic sallary) of money and then according with the performance of the player, he could earn more money. Incentives may be given if players play certain amount of games, hits or homeruns made, innings pitched, if team makes playoffs, etc. This type of contracts(incentives) are good for teams because if there is an injury or the player doesnt play well, the team doesnt have to pay the player. The down side of it is that good players can sign contracts with other teams that offer them a nice, guaranteed salary regardless of injuries or performance on the field. I dont know if contracts like this one are allowed in the NFL, NHL or NBA.

yes ,major league baseball contracts are guaranteed. players recieve full pay from their team regardless of if they become injured and cant play.

in your case, the player will get his full contrct amount in the 2nd year(injured year) and then the following year will need a new contract. who that new contract is with depends on a lot of things such as if the player is arbitration eligilbe or a free agent etc etc.
