I have to write an essay for my economics class based on how much population, growth, and advances in health/medicine will impact the U.S. economy in the future. Any ideas? Or any sources that would help me?

Wow that answer was way off the question. Please try to address the question that is being asked and not give undocumented, unrepresentative, and irrelevant facts..

The main relationship between the way all of these things have impacted our economy is the way advances in health care have increased life expectancy. The good news is that our loved ones (as well as ourselves) will now be able to expect a longer and hopefully a more enjoyable life. The bad news is that many of them are not prepared for the added expenses of longer life and higher health care costs.

Health-care has had more advances in the last 100 years than at any point though all recorded history. It has also increased more in price than at any point in history. There are several reasons for that but they are not direct answers to the question.

After WW2 there was a large surge in child birth (baby boomers) this age group is beginning to become more and more depended on our unprepared heath-care system. This will have an increasingly large effect on out economy as a whole.

This doesn't answer the whole question but at least its a start.

Consult Wikipedia with caution. It is a puplic forum and can be changed by people who dont know what they are talking about also. (although many Ph.Ds aslo post there) its hit or miss sometiems. Its not a credible accademic source for that reason. If we knew all answers were writen by smart people then ya...

If the US was to send out all the food it produces to the world at no cost. This would create a shock to the world food market. Supply would drastically increase while demand remained constant. This would lower prices of all food suddenly. Companies that make the food would then not be able to make enough profit to maintain that level of production due to the fact that their costs will not decrease. The will therefore reduce supply. Market supply will decrease to the point that it becomes increasingly difficult for all the countries that are currently struggling to buy their food who don't get the handouts. All research done by any professional economist has led to the conclusion that it would have such a devastating effect on the worlds economy that it would out-weight any good that it would provide. That's not even considering the fact that most poor countries who receive free food actually end up selling it to the people anyway...

If our health-care system sucks so bad why do communist leaders often come to the USA to get medical treatment instead of using their own "awesome" health-care systems? IE Fidel Castro. (Cuba was probably one of the counties used in your unspecified 'longer life expectancy' pool

I personally do not believe abortion helps the population. It damages it instead. How? With all the abortions, how many babies aborted were girls, vs boys? China from what I understand, has a bigger population than the USA. As for rape-I have a friend who was raped, and she kept her baby-no abortion or adoption. The girl is a smart `15 yr. old girl. Has wanted to become a doctor for several years. Our economy would do much better if we did not have abortions. The only abortion I believe in-miscarriages. I don't like those either. Why? Because, how many dr's., scientists, geniuses, etc. have been killed by being aborted by the mother? Oh yes, one important thing, The embryo is not just a "glob" of tissue. We all started out the same way. It is not the mother's "body" that is being completely destroyed by abortion-it is the baby's body being destroyed completely by abortion. You cannot put a cake mix, or pie in the oven, and expect it to come out of the oven as something else-that it is not. A cake mix comes out a baked cake. Same with the pie. Plus, it is a fact, that by destroying these embryo's, it is murder of human life. According to the One Who created us. Take care.

Well when you think of the US Economy you have to think about how our current debt will effect our future prosperity in that we now owe 8 Trillion dollars to various countries. The US population has now reached 300 million and the world's population is approaching 7 billion. You would have to assume that world-wide famine will increase which will effect our need to provide aid to other countries in need of it. The more people there are the more food and provisions we will need to provide for not only our own population but for exporting. Advances in health care and medicine will allow for people to live even longer, that is if we seriously re-evaluate our system in this country, as currently our health care (infant mortality rate, etc.) is very poor compared to other developed and western countries (and I am not comparing America with communist countries I am deriving this information from public news items and well-documented and reliable world-wide surveys). You might check out www.wikipedia.org and look up the economy and what has effected it in the past as a reference or discuss this issue with others. Good luck.
