to some degree- if there is air caught in their throat- it can be passed back up to exhale through the nose. It is very very hard for them to do. the only reason that i know this is that i saw my horse do it one time. and to happen, this has to be high in the throat. horses systems are built with all of the involuntary muscles going one way. they cannot vomit. that is why they colic.

Horses cannot vomit. I think that they cannot relieve the pressure through burping either. When I 've had a horse colic, the vet puts a tube down the esophagus into the stomach to get the medication in, then there is a lot of gas released. Usually gas in the upper GI tract isn't a problem for horses, but when it is, it can be lethal.

gas only comes out one end of a horse. that's why they colic. a dangerous and posslbly deadly condition.
