Well Cheyenne, this would depend on the level of the spell caster and what kind of a spell was being cast. An atypical spell could take several days to manifest even if caste by one with a high level of experience, however some simple spells can be concluded in a few minutes even by a novice.

That depends on how strong of a intention the caster put into the spell and if it was a quick fast acting spell or one that would lay hidden for a specified time before activating.

Seriously, stay away from casting spells. Even spells cast with the best intentions, by their nature alone, have a dark side, too. You don't want to go there.
For example: You cast a spell for money--you get the money because your Dad dies and leaves it to you. (Worst-case scenario) Or you cast a spell to make someone you love fall in love with you--It turns out that they aren't the one that fate had in mind for you, and now you have someone who isn't your soul mate, and you've lost your soul mate because of it.
Just don't go there.

my experience. my friend lost his car key... he search for the whole house but couldn't find it. he borrow mine while i was still in the bed (morning). when i woke up, the first thing i do is recite a 'lost and found' spell. after that, i walk out of my room to his room. the first thing i saw was his car key laying on his bed... he search for it whole morning. it is unlikely he missed that coz he is not a careless person, and not a person that will misplace things easily...
i was surprised, it looks like the spell worked right after i cast it.

As long as it takes for someone to believe a spell was actually cast on him/her and to start "seeing" the results of it.
For those of us who are clear-headed, it never happens. (And I love rwl_is_taken's answer! LMAO!)
