Does the number of coils or the diameter affect "k" value (spring constant)

Yes. There are lots of choices to make when designing springs. But all other things being equal, (1) more coils lowers K; (2) larger spring diameter lowers K; (3) larger spring wire diameter raises K.

I believe more coils and larger diameter coils make the spring constant...,well, more constant through a greater extension or compression
