i would have to say port city java in downtown wilmington is one of my alll time favorites its a chain but that one is the best.. you can sit and watch people go by on the street or hang out in the back and look at art from local artists. other good places include crossroads in waxhaw,NC ; ebar in nordstrom charlotte,NC (friends work there have to give them props) smelly cat cafe and coffee house named after the song in friends its great has live music most weekends and makes great smoothies too and any place in chapel hill
