I think you are making reference to a c600, not a 600c.
Though it is possible, you will find that you are getting yourself into something that costs more than it gains.
Say you spend 200 on a new processor. Then before long you are looking at a hard drive, I think the standard on those was about 40 gig. I think the ram is limited to a max of 1 gig. That won't be expandable.
I would keep using it and start saving for a new one. If you upgrade the ram to at least 512 mb, then you should get another 1 - 2 years out of the machine. Giving yourself pleanty of time to save for a new one. If you aren't sure how much ram you have, right click on "my computer" and goto "properties". It will be listed in the bottom right corner.

It is possible for some laptops assuming the same form factor or CPU socket is available. Practically all the new pentium CPU's have a Socket 775 form so if your motherboard accepts it, then the answer is yes. What kind of processor do you have now? do you know what model it is? If you update the CPU, you may also want to update the RAM if possible.

Not enough to matter, you would be throwing away your money. You can get brand new laptops as cheap at $499 from Dell.
