I don't care what anyone says, no competent doctor is going to induce labor on a woman just because she is in a hurry to have her baby. There has to be another reason(medical) for a doctor to do this, a insurance company will not pay for something that is considered elective, and if it is not medically necessary then it is elective.

Most good doctors will not induce early if there is not a valid health-related reason. Being tired of being pregnant is not a valid reason. Babies are considered premature when they are born before they hit the 38 week mark.

The main risk is that the baby is not ready. Usually, their lungs are the last thing to develop, so inducing a baby early could lead to the baby needing to be intibated and have an oxygen tube down their throat.

Another risk is low birth-weight. If they weight too little, they will need to stay in the NICU, sometimes for several weeks.

Some preemies cannot suck hard enough to get the let-down reflex going, so they cannot breastfeed. Sometimes, they cannot bottlefeed either, and will need to be fed through a tube or a syringe.

There are all sorts of other health problems that can happen with preemies, but I'm not going to try and list them all.

My sister-in-law really really wanted to get the whole pregnancy thing over with, but no matter how much she begged and pleaded, her doctor would not even consider induction until after she passed up her due date. She went into labor on her own, in Wal-Mart, at the day after Thanksgiving sale!

My midwife scheduled my induction for February 10, when I would be 10 days overdue. It never happened, though, because my little man turned breech and face up, so I had a c-section.

Just hang in there for the little bit you have left. You've bee pregnant for 37 weeks already! Surely you can handle at very least one more!

Congratulations on the baby, and good luck!

There are always risks associated with induction, slightly more than going into labor naturally. It is a more painful, forceful labor and will probably require you to get some kind of pain medication. I have never heard of a doctor inducing someone just because they want the baby early. I know if you cry enough and the doctor can justify it, they will induce you on or soon after your due date. Usually they will justify it with a large baby, although my doc induced my last labor because I had an excessive amount of amniotic fluid, which of course was causing me problems. I have to be induced every time as my labor tapers off after a while. The pain is incredible, but my labors have been fairly short, with none lasting more than 14 hours, and I usually deliver within two hours of my water breaking. All my babies have been healthy, if not happy at being ejected, but I was made to wait until I went into labor with the first three. My doctor for my fourth pregnancy was more sypathetic to my pleas, although it could have been my gargantuan size that convinced him I needed to deliver. Anyway, please do your research carefully before you decide what to do. www.babycenter.com is a great site for extensive information. Good Luck

My previous doctor refused to induce me until I was two weeks late. I was dilated to 3 cm for those two weeks. I have recently moved, I am 19 weeks pregnant with two other children at home, so I am going to see if my doctor will be willing to induce me on my due date, because my mom is taking her vacation then, so she can watch our other kids while I am not home.
I don't think that doctors should induce before the baby is due, in case the baby is too large or there is a medical reason.
Usually after 36 weeks if you go into labor the doctor won't stop it because the baby is considered full term, and its lungs should be fully developed, but NONE of my doctors would induce me early!!

I got induced with my second baby and it was very easy. I was in labor for an hour and had the baby right away. It was not a problem for me. I am going to have my 4th baby and will ask the doctor to induce me, because my husband works out of town in another state for 3 to 6 weeks at a time and I want him to be here for sure when I go into labor. Especially because I have no family or anything where Im at right now. Good Luck.

Inducing at ANY time increases the risks, it increases the risks of foetal distress, placental abruption, uterine rupture, and c-section, vaginal tearing, vaginal prolapse, etc, etc. Induced labour is more painful which may lead to an increased need for pain medication which also increases the risks.

At 37 weeks there is a fair chance your baby isn't ready yet. Some babies are ready at 37 weeks, some aren't really ready until 42 weeks. Even if you are ABSOLUTELY sure when you conceived. Ultrasounds are not that accurate.

I know it can be hard to wait but it is best for you and the baby. Let the baby decide when he/she is ready.

Most lay people dont know that the last month is so importent invetro. The baby is gaining so much weight at this time. Some babies still have cilea a fine hair on their bodies, to protect them. That usually comes off in the last 2 wks but not always. It is best to let mother Nature rule. Try to be patient i know what it is like as my second was 2 wks late. There is always a reason and purpose to everything and that includes the baby you are carrying.

I was induced at 38 weeks, and the first induction did not work. The second didn't work either, and that was after they broke my water, my baby was just too big for my body * I had gestation diabetes, which is why the induced to begin with* What I guess I'm saying I don't think you can be induced because you 'want to be' and even if you did...it might not work because your body isn't ready.

I was induced because my baby didn't come the day she was suppost to. So they induced me twice the first 2 days I was in the hospital before they gave me a C-Section; because I only dilated 1cm. I don't know how it is for everyone but when they did me the second time and I started to feel the contraction and they were like a minute apart, it was painful.

No you will have to by no means set off with out a well motive. His motive is so that you can do it only for the heck of it? I do not fairly understand what to consider of a surgeon like that! Nothing in opposition to you hun however he is not going to also be speaking induction until there's a motive. My water broke for my first child and I used to be brought on. The ache from brought on contractions is such a lot worse than simply having them occur evidently! I later discovered that I did not need to be brought on that frequently after your water breaks you begin exertions evidently however it seems that I used to be at an induction glad sanatorium! My moment youngster used to be an induction in order that my husband might be there. We had been presently dwelling seven hundred miles clear of each and every different and we desired to be in combination. It used to be four days earlier than my due date and I used to be already dialated to four cm. But the child wasn't doing good at the induction so we close it off after eight mins. But fortunately my frame saved up the contractions and the child had no obstacle. I am now pregnant with my 3rd and induction isn't an alternative without a most important motive!
