It is very traditional and family oriented with emphasis on the importance and significance of elders in the family and about the rich history involved in your ancestry. The symbols are beautiful and the ceremony of the candle lighting is wonderful. The nightly gathering for single families to celebrate each of the seven principles each night is awesome and has a way of building unity. I have been to several very well done ones and a few that incorporated scripture too. There were spectacular.

Kwanzaa is a 7day African-American cultural festival that is observed from Dec 26 to Jan 1. It's the only nationally celebrated, indigenous, non-heroic African-American holiday in the U.S. During this time, families explore, share and celebrate the African-American community, their culture and their history.
