"Yoda" is supposed to have been etymologically derived from some ancient language - in this case possibly from the Sanskrit yoddha ("warrior"), or possibly from the Hebrew verb yodea ("knows") <--- I got this from Wikipedia.
Even Wikipedia doesnt have his full profile- stating that his species as UNKNOWN & home world as UNKNOWN too.
There're two more who looks like Yoda, with pointed ears and green in colour, plus all the wrinkles but with longer hair:
Yaddle (female) and Vandar Tokare (male)
"This species bore resemblance to the Lannik species, primarily their short stature, large pointed ears, and, as in the case of Yaddle, a topknot of hair. Whether or not this species was related to the Lannik is uncertain, though Yoda had at least once been mistaken for a Lannik. It is highly unlikely that there was a genetic connection between the species though, because Lannik were much more humanoid in appearance and seemed to have a different evolutionary history than that of Yoda and Yaddle's species (Lannik appeared to have evolved from simians, while the unknown tridactyl species had features that could point to an amphibian ancestry)" --> from the Wookieepedia (Please check it out, it's AWESOME!)

None of the 10 or so Star Wars books i've read have made any mention to the origin of Yoda, so i guess it's going to remain a mystery.
As for all the retards who replied with "who cares" or other non constructive posts, take your 2point spam elsewhere, if you can't contribute anything, don't bother posting. Why did you even bother clicking on this question given its title if you aren't a Star Wars fan?

I am a star wars fanatic and they have not released the race/species of Yoda. Kind of stupid for a key charater to not know the origon of there race. But yes have asked several times on many diffrent star wars forum boards.

I dont remember his race,
But there was word that a member of the jedi council (with strange ears like yoda's) might have been of the same race but taller.
