and I'm not there for my own protection, so I am wondering what can I do from around 5000 KM away to support her through this, she's had to arrange this ALL on her own which is just rotten if you ask me, but she'll be here next week.
what to do?

Currently if she's that far away, just let her know you're there for her, send her a note or some flowers, cookies anything just to remind her that she can come to you if she needs to and she's not alone. Help take her mind off of it until she comes to see you. My friend found out she has cancer and everytime I talk to her I don't talk about her cancer, I know it's so hard and if she really needs to talk about it, just listen, it will help her a lot

I'm a little confused. If you are her partner, then aren't you also her mate?
