When you say you're ordering takeaway, I'm assuming you're going to a restaurant that's typically a sit down one, like Carrabas(spl?) or Chili's. If so than it's not expected, but it's appreciated. I work in a restaurant where the baker/bartender often does these takeouts (and I've done some too) and they usually do all the boxing up themselves and bag it up and pretty much go out of their way for you. With that said, it's more polite and courtious to give a couple bucks. You don't have to do the usual 15-20%, but it also depends on how much you ordered and how specific you were. If your total is only $16.25, than a dollar would be nice or even just the rest of the change (.75). Say your total is more like 50, I'd be happy with even $2 or if you went above and gave $10! But like I said it's not required but more recommended, depending on how they treated you and if everything was correct. Enjoy your food :-)

It depends on the type of resturant, that I am getting takeout at, if its a sit down place with waitresses, then I will usually leave a buck or two. I raised my 3 children as a single mom, waiting tables, and its very hard work, which most people don't realize. The waitress is usually caught in the middle between the customers and the cooks, and most cooks are very tempermental, or maybe even mental, and when the cook don't make something the way the customer ordered it, its usually the waitress who catches the blame, and loses on tips, which is unfair........those reading this, remember to look at the service, that is what the server does, the food, is the cook, although I would try to catch any mistakes the cooks would make and tell them to fix it, before taking it to the customer, then explain to the customer, that it wasn't quite the way they ordered it, so I sent it back, and the wait will be just a bit longer. I guess what I am saying is tip the waitress, remember many depnd on the tips, cause she don't get paid much at all, that is their bill, food and clothing money to raise their families.

It depends on what type of takeaway you are ordering. If the place is designed for that type of patronage (mcdonald's, some chinese places, etc), then I would say no, although I do like to put a couple bucks in the cup at like ice cream places and coffee shops, places like that, if the person was friendly and got my order right. If it is a place that normally does not do takeout like a local sit down restaurant, I usually tip 5 to 10 percent, depending on the courtesy of the person taking care of me(unfortunately for the person who will eventually receive the tip). Usually the person will give the tip to the server or hostess that put the meal together in the bag and made sure everything was there. I have found that this practice has served to ensure better service on repeat visits. Now for a maybe place like Friday's or Bennigan's, I tip depending on the place. If the server that put it together takes care of me I'll tip them. If not, then I don't trust they'll give it to the person that actually did the work, even if you request it. Basically, it's up to your discretion. Good Luck

NO! You do not tip for take out/take away and if there is a place on a receipt for you to write a tip, put a line through it.

If it is a place that you eat at often, sure leave a dollar or two, but you do not need to tip for take out. It is all about your experience, if ordering was complicated and they messed things up or they were unfriendly or rude, Most certainly do not leave a tip. If they were curtious and helpful, Why not? If you can spare it, do so. However it isn't important to leave a tip, because employees who are working take out usually get paid soley on that and tips are just a bonus.

It doesn't kill one to leave them their change from the purchase, So do it, Heck - It just might buy you your way in to heaven ;)

Okay, as I bartender, when people order food to go I have to make the salad put the dressings on the side and all the little sauces, make sure people have all the extra sides and that the order is right. Then bagging it etc. Plus I still have a bar full of other customers. This maybe a different scenario from what you are referring, but I really appreciate a little something.

Generally no, but if you've been given exceptional service (a complicated order, something to drink while you're waiting, etc.) it might be nice to tip a dollar or several dollars depending on the size of the total order.

If taking-away from a non-takeaway restaurant, I'd tip about 10%.

No, I don't tip for takeaway - ie. if you pick up the food yourself. I only tip for table service or delivery.

You should tip because the person
who put together your order was
probably a server who may have
taken time away from her (tipping) tables
to make sure all of your stuff was
there for you.
Did you shop for the meal?
Did you prepare the meal?
NO, all of it was done for you.
TIP!!!!!!! Is a few more bucks
gonna kill you, really?
If so, go grocery shopping!! As your
$$ will go farther, and YOU get to
do all the work too!!
