After sending a resume to an employer, what should you say in a follow-up call?

Just tell them I sent over my resume however long ago and I'm just wondering if any thing was decided. Tell them you are very interested in the job and try to sound very professional and be very curtious. That's really all you have to say.

After sending your resume:

1) Call and confirm they received your resume/application. If yes, proceed to step #2

2) If you applied for a position within a mom-pop agency (1-3 people), ask when they will close the position for applications and begin resume screening. For larger employers, just stick with step #1 (call and confirm). If there are specific questions about the position that the human resources assistant can not answer, chances are they will refer you to the supervisor in charge of hiring (where you can really begin networking/asking more in depth questions, sharing your experiences, etc.).

3) To close: "Thank you - I am definatley still interested in the position and hope to hear from you soon after you make your final decisions."

Just say you are calling to see if the resume was recieved and ask if you can set up a time for an interview. It is okay to be a little pushy just to see what they have to say. If they are really intrested they will want to talk to you right away if not you will know.

Tell them you are calling to make sure they received your resume and ask them when you can expect to have an answer whether you get an interview/follow-up call or not.
