1. Don't leave out food, including pet food and open garbage containers, inside our out.
2. Caulk any places pipes and wires enter your house (caulk outside as well as inside).
3. If you have a crawl space, make sure all holes are properly screened/secured. Use hardware cloth (it's a metal mesh) to cover openings, rats can't chew thru it.
4. Keep your grass mowed, get rid of woodpiles, unused equipment or junk piles; especially ones close to the house.
You will want to keep trapping the rats you presently have, but cleaning up around the property will keep new ones form moving in.

Mice, sure. Rats, it relies upon. some cats won't handle a rat. as quickly as a cat has got here across it may handle a rat, then it is going to seek them from then on. that's in certainty all the way down to the cat's self belief and adventure. Mice in spite of the incontrovertible fact that, infrequently fail to place a cat in 'hunt mode'. My youthful brother lived in a flat which had a mouse subject, not one of the 'chemical factors' or 'traps' worked. So he have been given a 12 year previous cat from a shelter and interior a month, not greater mice. So sure, rather effectual. many times, women are greater desirable hunters than men, in spite of the incontrovertible fact that that's no longer a golden rule, greater a 'one popular' variety of subject. you would be able to desire to no longer starve a cat to get it to seek. If the cat is going outdoors, loss of foodstuff will reason it to boost its territory and it's always away plenty. Feed it properly, and it will stay nearer to the domicile and catch greater mice. it is effortless mistake.

Make sure all garbage is in a tightly closed container. keep yard, garage and home clear of garbage or piles of cloth etc, it is the fall season and the varmints are looking for a suitable place for nesting through the winter. If you see any openings where they might get into your house place a piece of tin metal over the opening. A rat can squeeze through an opening the size of a quarter! Steel wool will usually help keep them out too but you have to pack it in really tight.

Poisons will kill them, but they often die halfway to the outside, in a wall, and stink wicked. The best way is just to get a big cat. I've also found that the ultrasonic deterrents don't work as well as they are advertised.

Cats is the best answer.
but if you don't like them, make sure all the pipes, and wiring entering your house are well caulked, as well as the doors and windows.
AS far as outside, dont give them places to hide like wood piles, or big piles of leaves or car parts, etc.
