According to WikiPedia, it was originally a Christian holiday. So why does every christian I know (well, to clarify, they're ignorant 12 year olds) say that it is made by the devil?

It was originally a Pagan holiday. Followers (look up Paganism for an appropriate definition of such followers of the Pagan tradition-please don't stereotype) celebrate All Hallows Eve (Samhain) as the end of their year.

It is for this reason that some Christians say it was made by the devil, however merely because it is a holiday derived from the celebrations of a different religion (a non-devil worshipping one at that) doesn't mean it is evil or of the devil in any way.

In fact, you should research all other major "Christian" holidays, you'll be surprised by how many actually belong to Christianity.

it all depends on what point of view you take and what 'story behind Halloween' you believe. It's become popular in religion to label it as the devils day. But in fact that interpretation is skewed. Halloween started out as a harvest festival. A large feast to give praise and thanks for the good crop of the year. Trick or Treat may actually be a variation of different house holds sharing 'special treats' or the best of their years bounty. It is also said that in older cultures, such as Scottish where they believed in ghosts and spirits that Halloween was the day when the veil between the living and the dead was thinned. Many take this to mean they would commune with malevolent spirits, when it could just as well mean that this was the day they remembered and celebrated friends and family past.
There has been incidents of devil worship and rituals circling Halloween, but it's my believe that you aren't tainted by association. If you celebrate Halloween in the spirit of fun, you have nothing to be ashamed of. Just because you dress up and go to an innocent party does not mean you worship the devil.

The origins of Halloween had roots in the old religion for England. This was all hallows eve the night that the dead returned to earth to torment and play tricks on the living. People dressed up a someone else so they would not be recognized and gifts were put on doorways to bribe spirits to leave those in the house along. To days Halloween is not a religious event but a fun time for kids who like to dress up and get candy. This probably has more to do with candy companies that the Devil.

In America from 1950 through today, Halloween has nothing to do with the devil or evil. This is a fact.
Many adult religious people will tell you otherwise, because they have little faith in GOD - but who is more powerful? Who protects children? So GOD would be very sad for children NOT to have a little fun, and as HE made chocolate - why not enjoy some!
Anyone under 12 can not be responsible for adult concepts. Anyone over 12 - the age of reason - is abusing their younger friends and this is wrong.
Old adults can talk between themselves and make up stories - but don't lie to children. Adult parties are different than parties for children - for this reason, to stop confusion of children.
Also, many adult religious people will tell you lies about their haunted houses - they are not Halloween - they are lies to trick you about their religion. Stay clear of these dens of lies! Religious people lying to children - is there anything sadder?
Forgot something very important: WHAT DOES YOUR PARENTS SAY ABOUT HALLOWEEN? THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOU AND YOUR FAMILY. DO NOT LISTEN TO ANYONE BUT THEM FIRST.

halloween was actually a celtic holiday, Samhain (sp?). Then christanity came over and made the 31st All Hallow's Evening which was shortened to All Hallow's Eve and then finally Halloween. Christains back in that time created Halloween to 'get rid' of Samhain... to replace the Celt's new years celebration with their own holiday.... so I have no idea why christains say that their own made holiday was made by the devil.

I'm a Christian - and I do NOT say that Halloween is made by the devil. I celebrate Halloween every year - it is fun, innocent holiday and we should all just enjoy the fantasy, fun and candy!
