My caveman husband wants to pull them down and hose them off...but I'm sure theres a better way out there? I'm afraid that the WHITE string/threading/rope that holds them together might turn brown from the water or the dirt? I know now how insane it is to have white wood blinds.....

I soak my blinds in my bathtub about every six mths with scolding hot water and bleach. Then hang them outside to dry, Its really not that difficult and they will look new again. The strings wont turn colors either. Putting to much pressure on them with the hose could damage the threading...I would think.

tlw733 has the best idea. I usually don't go to the trouble of actually undoing everything to replace one however. I use scissors to cut the damaged blind slat through at each of the rope slots and remove it. Then I do the same on one of the extra ones below and insert it in the ladder and then slide the ropes through the slits I made to get it off. I cut the slits at a slight angle to the hole rather than straight to hole. No one can usually tell unless they look closely.

your husband's right dont worry about the dirt that will stick to the strings... it'll wash off = just sprinkle soap sudd to the blinds then leave it for 30 mins then rinse...
