As long as you have a place to roll..ya got a place to learn. It doesn't take long. Even a slow learner like me, eventually learned. It took a couple of years, but I sort of learned. You just need to try to learn to push yourself sideways, not just straight, foot by foot!

It all depends on your degree of fear and the style of skating you want...
If it's for recreational skating, you could basically try a beginners course and get the basic skills such as balance, stroking and stopping.... but if you want to go for speed, figure, hockey skating, it's your determination and the will to bear that sometimes big bruises on your knees, hips, elbows will be part of the game....

it depends. it's easier on rollerblades than on ice. on the ice everything looks so sweet and easy, but it's a lot harder than it seems. i've just come out of a skating lesson, and it was really difficult, comapred to rollerblades. you should start on rollervlades, but wear protective gear, and when you know how to skate on them well enough, you can switch to ice skates, but it will be a bit of a shock, cause your feet don't go as safe as on blades.

well......
it depends on your gender a bit, and it depends on how much you really want to learn how to skate.
if you just want to do it for fun, great, it might be tough in the beginning.
If you really want to do some things in the rink, spins or jumps, the comitment is tough. I figureskate, (Im not sure if you mean figureskating or rollerblading...)
ANd the comitment is really hard. I wake up at 5 to get to the rink before school, and sometimes train after school. :D
