I'm all for gay men making out. Preferably in front of me. With lots of tongue. And touching...and oiled chests....
*lost in thought*
Sorry.."Queer as Folk" has ruined me...*wondering when "The L Word" comes on...*

Kuve, come off it! Straight white men made plenty of rules and for you to say that someone shouldn't question those rules in site of acting in the same vane is off. No one should be told not to question what happens around them. This is how we learn, simple and plain.
As for the subject matter of same sexes making out, yeah women are more overt when greeting each other or what have you. Most men like to see women making out because its just enough taboo for them to handle and tell their buddies about over a beer. Same goes for women too. Even if they don't "get down" that way they are still intrigued.
Talking about men making out and it's a whole other ball game. It's Gay, It's HOMOSEXUAL activity! It triggers the Taboo button that says wrong with a great number of Americans. This is an American standard not a universal one.
Travel abroad and you will see a vast difference in the way men and women interact with each other.

I reckon it's cos many men get off on the thought of two women together and it seems to rate well in the media, for example, Big Brother & women kissing each other in the spa in front of the guys. I know the bible makes reference to men should only lie with women or something, but as far as I'm concerned the bible is only one religious document and not THE ultimate guide to how to live one's life. Living honourably, honestly and lovingly is much more of a significant message to send out to people than who someone sleeps with. I wonder if the bible mentions what it does in the pursuit of procreation only, which totally negates the right to finding THE life partner for you, no matter who they are - male or female. I hope your husband finds the strength to not go to counselling set up by his foster father and finds his own 'religion', and peace, within. That's when we are truly free. :)

traditionally (back in the day) woman's only purpose was to bear and nurture children. part of nurturing is being physically more close and loving. at the time men were "supposed" to be the money-maker and provider, the visible signs of this were a strick buisiness type attitude. this encouraged society's expectation that men should be less publicly intimate with anyone and should be more reserved. society accepted that as gender-role which they play. women are allowed to be loving. men are supposed to be reserved.
society is lame.

Straight men made the rules, and they like to watch women, not men. Simple as that. Who gave you the right to say someone else can't play favorites, or to dictate what they have to like? That puts you in the same category as those you decry.

It's not hypocrisy per se. It's just the preference of people. I'm a lesbian, and when I see two men making out, I turn away. Not because I'm offended by it. Not because I don't find it erotic, nor horrible to watch. I just don't like to look at them. It's just not something I want to watch.

the world is dominated by straight men. and sadly i don't think that will change. i love to see two guys making out - i saw a couple on saturday night (in public - on the street) they looked like they had totally put thier guard down for each other - it was beautiful. (and this is coming from a lesbian)

Possibly acceptable for women because it is common to see them greeting each other with a kiss, similarly when departing. Gwenneth and I would do so, but would never get "carried away" in public.

because gay men making out is ugly and digusting while lesbians (depending on what they look like) is very erotic.
and no matter what sexual preference i really don't want to see
either in public have a little modesty and respect those around u that don't want to see you stick your tongue down your boy friends throat not to mention children who might be watching

No one is going to hit a girl for kissing someone - anyone.
Gay guys? Better know better if they don't want to get beat up.
The country is still like this - cultural change is not instantaneous.
