My daughter just bought her first laptop with her own money. She had an accident, and it fell on the floor. It seems the monitor is what broke. If the computer itself is alright, can you take a laptop that has shorted out, but screen is still good, and replace the bad screen with the good screen? If it is the same size, does it have to be the same make? Since I don't know much about the repair of computers, I was hoping for some help from someone who knew. Before I have it looked at by a repair shop, I want to know before hand of my options. Thanks in advance for your help!

yes it has to be the same make. I just replaced mine a few months ago. How it's done depends on the make of your computer. If your uncomfortable openeng the laptop up, you should go ahead and take it it to a repair shop. If you want to go ahead and try it, get a repair manual for your model, you can usually find one on your manufacturer's web site. Don't even try it without a manual! My dell for example, you have to take the correct screws out in order, if you don't, you will end up with pieces scattered all over the place. Find the manual and follow it to the letter. Either way you go, yourself or with a repair shop, you can still save a ton of money if you go to ebay.com and find a replacement. Get one for your model, there are dozens of vendors that will sell you one, I got mine for $70 with a two year warranty. If you order one new from the manufacurer , expect to pay around $300.

i grant you with some concepts. a million) replace the exhibit screen. i do not have the web pages the position you could order, yet i'm particular you'll discover it, and/or some different person will grant you with the link. notwithstanding, the exhibit screen is truly one among the only maximum extreme priced merchandise for the computer, so be prepared. And if you aren't to any extent further pc savvy, you would elect to get some different person to position in it for you. 2) purchase a liquid crystal exhibit computer screen. that's low-cost, now days, you'll hit upon a 19" for $one hundred. basically plug it on your pc and use that as a exhibit. notwithstanding that's going to render your pc ineffective in case you favor to go back and forth with the computer. 3) maximum extreme priced option is to interchange the computer. Like I stated till now, in case you could stay with the computer growing a "computer", then purchase a computer screen and do it that way.

Look around to try to find the best deals, Geek Squad at Best Buy, a repair shop. It maybe cheaper to replace the laptop but it never hurts to shop around before you make a choice. Good Luck

Replacing a screen is more expensive than replacing the laptop itself. I'd hate to say it, but you're out of luck. If the laptop is otherwise functional you can attach an external monitor to it through the VGA port on the back.

The screen must be the same make and model--in most cases. It is usually more cost efficient, unfortunately, to replace the entire computer. Check with your local mom and pop computer shop because the big places (circuit city and best buy) will charge too much.

Yes! The screen could be replaced. But I would like to suggest to talk to the vendor manufacturer to see if they could help. If it's still new and under warranty they could just sell you the parts at a discount or sometimes they give it away for free. It's a customer satisfaction move. Tell them you will be an advocate for them. Good luck.

It'll be cheaper to buy a brand new laptop than to replace the screen.

You can, but it would be cheaper just to get an entirely new laptop.
