The most obvious answer is mobile phones. Most poor countries can't afford the high cost of installing phone lines to millions of homes, so it is easier and cheaper just to build cell phone towers. Satelite dishes are also popular (once again assuming that that they have electricity). I have travelled through many remote villages in SE Asia and South America and remote parts of eastern Europe and many of these areas can't get normal TV reception due to their remoteness. However, on top of their grass or wood huts or whatever, it is not unusual to see a satelite dish so that they can get satelite telephone and satelite TV.
