Only if your alternative would be to roll down the windows. That creates enough drag to offset the use of AC.

It also depends on your a/c system. A climate control system will do a more efficient job of cycling the compressor and cooling then a standard hot/cold/ fan system. Also if your car is older there would be a difference if you were running a older R-12 or a newer R-134 system. How about if its raining. Or if the car has a variable displacement compressor. For the most part you use less fuel when you have your a/c off, but turning the heat on will save gas.

If this is an A/C versus rolled-down windows question, then it depends on how fast you're driving. You consume less gas with the windows rolled down at speeds under 60 mph. You actually consume MORE gas with the windows rolled down at speeds over 60 mph. It's more cost-effective to use the A/C while in the highway.

Wrong people.I watched a program on tv that showed which burns more, ac or windows down. You actually save a fraction more on gas by using ac because of the drag coefficient that air rushing into the vehicle creates. It will only save like 10 or 15 gallons of ags a yearb ut every bit helps.

no it has been proved that is actually saves gas oh high way and the interstate, because leaving the windows down it takes more gas because the wind will actually slow u down and take more power or your car to stay at one or any speed. I learned this off of myth busters.

yes but a very little bit more with windows down you create more drag and burn more fuel than with a/c on I saw this test done on tv the other night on myth busters
