I just spent the weekend with an old friend. She spent money all weekend (and quite a bit I might add), then complained that she is so poor and has nothing to be thankful for. (??)

Jeepers, I was glad to come home!

No...I don't think I've ever done that...
but I have a friend who makes good money,
has no house payment, no car payment, and
no credit cards, yet constantly says she has no money

I never complain that I'm poor with nothing to be thankful for but when I do spend too much, I complain some, only because I feel guilty....especially when I buy things for myself. I always think after that I could have spent the money better on my daughter or my husband. It only lasts a short time....but I do complain a little :)

Talk to people you wouldn't normally talk to. Yes you have to get out of your comfort zone a bit but who knows, you might make a life long friend. Go out places like the library or join a sports club or whatever and meet people that way. You won't be a loner (hermit) all your life, unless that is the life you choose to lead. And that would be a very lonely sad existence so I'd recommend getting out of the room every once in a while.. Things will be all good again, you'll see.

Um, well yes and no. I do spend a lot then whine that I spent too much, but I NEVER complain that I'm so poor. I have a good job and a lot to be thankful for. I also like to have nice things. I guess you have to choose--new leather boots or a hefty savings account.

I rarely say "never" or "always" as there are sometimes changes to consider. But If I were going to pick one subject on which to say NEVER it would be the subject of spending too much money. I NEVER spend too much money. Therefore, I am NEVER broke.

NEVER! Money and all the material things are not important in a friendship. I'm sorry to hear about your friend.

When I spend too much money I challenge my friends to pool or poker, and joke them when I take their money.

No, I usually give myself a guilt trip and if I can't get over it I just return the clothes/shoes.
