Unles they are in a den hibernating they crawl (slither) year round. When the temps get too low, they find a den and hole up. Sometimes you can find many, many snakes in one den.

In cold areas of the state, snakes hibernate during winter. However, in the more temperate climate along the coast they shelter in rock crevices and logs during cold weather and come out on warm days to soak up the heat of the sun. During cold weather, snakes are less active and therefore hunt less. In the winter their metabolisms slow down, and they use up body fat which has been stored up during the warmer months of the year.

For starters snakes dont crawl, they slither. Snakes will move or be active year round if they're provided a healthy proper environment.

Though snakes "hibernate" during the winter, they can crawl around and even on very warm winter days you may find them outside their dens sunning themselves.

In a cold climate, snakes hibernate. Due to being a cold blooded animal, snakes will in fact freeze but will melt in the spring and come back. In the warmer places, they will go about like normal.

if it is cold enough they prefer to get in a hole or cave, some quiet place with no transit to spend the winter, remember snakes are cold blooded animals, that means they pretty much enter hypothermia during cold winters.
If your winters are "California" winters then no, although it has been really cold in Cali lately. brrrr.
