ok, that all sounds good, but my old computer is from 1993 and I just won this new one. YES won. I don't have a lot of money, so can I just download stuff to a 3.5 disc and transfer it that way? My old one, the one I'm on right now runs VERY slow and crashes all the time.

To save yourself the time and repetition of burning DVDs or CDs for data, your best bet would be to use a portable hard drive. They're relatively cheap (if you look in the right place) and they can transfer ALL your data at once!

If you just want to copy your data files, documents and favorites then a USB thumb drive or burning a CD works fine.

If you want to completely transfer all of your old programs, data etc. then your best bet is a program like MoveMe. Without such a program, you'll have to reinstall your software programs from their original CDs or simply use the software preinstalled on your new computer, which may be different from what you had previously.

Hey cheapest way is to get few cds..and if u have cd writer in old one then transfer the data to that and from that cd..upload on new computer...if u dont have a cd writer in older one..then go for pendrive..go for something like 1gb capacity..In India it costs about $20..u can insert it in usb drive of ur old computer..and if u have windows professional it is plug and play and if u have 98 or 95 u can install it with the instalation cd provided. download data on this drive like u would on floppy and then simply take that device to ur new computer and simlarly u can put data from it there...

Do you have an iPod?
If so, that's the best and the fastest way to transfer files. Just copy files to your ipod and copy them back to your new computer.

or

if you have ethernet on both of your computers, just connect them and create a peer-to-peer network between them, share the drive of your old computer so that the new one can see it, then just copy all files to your new computer
