This is a very intelligent question.
I do notice it.
The term mediocrity comes to mind. I truly believe that a lot of our serious politicians are caught up in this garbage.
The special interest groups, and the people handling their campaigns are responsible for most of it.
I blame the candidates for going along with this garbage.
I feel that my best bet is to search out a person to find out if he is a true patriot, and has the will of the people in front of him, or her.
A truly sly, and smart politician could get my vote by campaigning against smut ads.
But that would probably be another trick.

Actually, in our area, there have been some out and out lies about some politicians. It has helped me decide who I am voting for. I am not voting for the liars. And another thing, there is a guy running for Governor of Florida. His name is Charlie Crist and I was going to vote for him until he hung 2 thirty foot posters of himself on buildings in downtown Tampa. Posters that large are against the law here and once giving notice they have 30 days to remove them. So although he knows that they are illegal he isn't removing them until after the elections because he has 30 days to do so. I am not voting for him either now. If they are going to knowingly break the law in order to get a vote, then they loose my vote.

Negative ads don't change my vote ... What a waste of money on both sides.. I do think some moral rules should be used to stop this waste of time..

I really wish there was a way to vote for "None of the above" and have that position go up for a special election.
There are two yaboos (Davis & Renolds) fighting for a congressional seat in NY..Neither one deserves it after the crap they mail out DAILY
Have I mentioned I'm a mailman?

It affects how I vote in that I am not inclined to support the moral defectives who use them.
