From invasion? That depends; who's invading? What kind of defense - force? If it's New Zealand that's invading, and you're talking about force, then not many. If it's the U.S., and you're talking about force, then every Frenchman they've got, and they'd still lose (unfortunately). If you meant a broader definition of "defend", then I'd have to jump to options of persuasion. For example, if France was refusing to slaughter people in Iraq and the U.S. threatened them, then a high-ranking Frenchman need only say, "Okay, we're for the slaughtering; we agree; you're right."

well this is a complicated question, it depends on if the invading country plans on feeding their models for the fashion shows, and also if the invading county is planning on consuming their alcohol. if not id say none, if however they do plan on feeding the models, then by all means nuke the fu@@ers!!!
