Travelers Checks are difficult to use in Indonesia. It took us almost 45 minutes to cash them in in the bank. I guess there are a lot of fraudulent ones floating around over there. Definitely take cash, 20's, 50's and 100's are fine. (You actually get a better exchange rate with cash as apposed to travellers checks). Also, some of the roadside stands tend to have better rates than banks. Be sure to count the money after they hand it to you as well, we got shorted in a few places. (All of those zeroes can be overwhelming!)

Okay there.
I'd say US$100 would keep you fine for a month or so if you don't spend a lot but what ever you do, do not bring large amounts of dollar bills. Right now you have the rupiah to the dollar being 9500Rp ish... so if you do go to bogor... 50 bucks would keep you quite satisfied. You'll get a lot of rupiah and there are a lot of poor people there. Flash a lot of money and get robbed. 50 bucks a week would be a safe bet.

depends on how long u will be staying i guess, and what all u will be doing...in other words how much money ur gonna spend. Plus u should have extra in case anything happens and ppl will most likely rip u off anyway cuz u are bule. can u speak indonesian? i think last time we exchanged anything the lowest bill u can exchange is a 50, but it really depends on where you are exchanging at...dont try travellers checks tho u need money.

Yes they don't really like traveller's checks. Even though it's not impossible to change them at the bigger banks, you still won't have the same exchange rate as if you exchange cash. Get 100 dollar bills to change, preferably new(er) ones, they value them better.

DONT bring travellers checque.. they dont value it. Use good, unfolded dollar if u wanna exchange it, cause they will value it higher.
and how much should u bring? basically depends on what r u goin to do there, where r u goin to live and how long u will b there. but it wouldnt be way expensive i believe.
