Probably the same reason that kids think the first few slices of bread in a loaf are poisoned. Ever noticed how they bypass the first three or four slices and pick out a slice further down the package? Smart kids. But apropos the toilet, I think they're mistaking unflushable toilet paper for an ectosplasmic presence. God only knows, when I admire my handiwork after a visit to the loo, I get a bit scared too!

erm ghosts?? i know what ya mean cos i was terrified going to toilet at my grans cos i thought my late grandad was gonna appear whilst i was in the process of!! Many a time i heard a noise and 'dampened' her carpet!!
I think the reason now kids flush and run is not because of ghosts but kids diets are that poor now that the smell they leave behind would surely kill them if they stuck around!!!

Sounds like you need to speak to a plumber...or a therapist.
Can't say I've ever had that problem.
Don't think I flushed and ran as a kid even, probably much more interested in watching everything get swirled down the plughole!

I have never had to pull the flush, just tap the handle...But i think they are afraid that the potty monster may come out to eat them...The kiddos may not have let a good enough present for the potty gods, so they head for the hills...

well i dunno about kids, but educated people should: because we know that when you flush the toilet, tiny little water droplets containing shite/piss germs fly up into a big cloud over the toilet (obviously you can't see it - the droplets are microscopic, but they are there.) and i'd rather breathe air that does not contain what just came out of my rectum.
