A spirometer lung capacity and volume. WHy are these measurements important.

Because it tells you how much air you can breath in and out of your lungs. If you have emphysema, you will be able to take in a normal volume of air, however, during exhalation the volume of air you breath out will be too low. So such measurements can tell you if your patient has a disease related to inspiration or expiration or both.

this is important for diagnosis of lung/respiratory disorders.
only when u know how much a air a person breathes normally u can detect if hes breathing less!
