OKay OKay, I am a home health nurse that takes care of a patient in her home... ON Thrsday she called my boss and told her that I wasn't there.... Basically she got me into trouble. Because I told her that I was going to be there on Friday so she took the liberty of calling my boss to get me into trouble. so on Friday.... I went as normal to the clients home... The first thing that came out of her mouth was "are you mad at me" I calmly said "no" thinking to myself I am certainly not going to the extra mile with this lady... She said she would treat me to hot dogs, and buy me something from wal-mart, but to make a long story short is she my friend like she claims for doing this to me?

thanks t

No. She's your patient.

She may be very lonely and emotionally needy, and may have even called your boss just to have someone to talk to, and she may even be a really nice person in every way, but...

She's not your friend. She's your patient. She doesn't owe you friendship, you get paid, and you aren't paid to be her friend.

Keep it professional, which is not to say unfriendly and cold, but if you let her be your friend, you'll be giving her freebie visits to drag her to the bank and wal mart before you know it.

I think she is very lonely and does not know how to go about finding friends I would have told her that you were a Little hurt and confused at the way she acted and if she needed to talk to someone to call you. Not lie to your boss because if you loose your job you will not be coming back to work with her.

probably not, but then that is not your relationship is it? it is employer (sort of) employee. perhaps too, she has a disease that affects how she acts. i mean there must be a reason you are coming to care for her. that usually doesn't come cheap and most don't do it unless they need it. talk with your boss and ask how to handle it, so they are aware of what happened (in case it does again). she sounds like she might be sad and lonely.

as most people already said, she is your patient and it is important to keep it that way. she probably just wants a friend. i dont know her history, but maybe she doesnt have many close friends or relatives and youre the only one she can count on.
