me & two of my friends are currently in college studying computer science and web development, we would like to design websites for local non-profit organisations, how do we get started?

I'd say you should print out some flyers and deliver them to local churches. Many churches can't afford to pay for websites.

Google for 'Christian web hosts'. Some provide free hosting - just be sure that your site also includes a hyperlink to Jesus.
