I'm not big on medication...I think it masks the issues, and you end up risking a dependency on it. Even without the dependency concern, you have to face what's bothering you sooner or later.

So, if there's an issue....face it. If you can't change it, that's okay. You need to recognize that too, sometimes.

If this is just something you go through occasionally, and isn't constant or long term...as stupid as it sounds...sometimes you just have to decide you're DONE with the depression. You literally have to force yourself to stop thinking the negative thoughts, and being a lump..and get yourself moving.

Exercise and meditation have been shown to improve mood; sometimes diet changes help...leave the fast foods, and the prepared stuff alone, and get lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains...all the good stuff. Avoid alcohol...alcohol is a depressant, and only makes it all worse.

If this is something you're going through all the time, it's getting worse, never goes away, or you're thinking about taking your life...then you need to get some help..and not on Yahoo! Answers.

Hang in there....

If this is a chronic problem, therapy could definitely benefit you.
I find the best way to not wallow in depression is to break the depressive cycle. Normally, depression makes you feel like you don't want to do anything, but the passivity will end up making you more depressed. Take time off for yourself. Go outside. Fresh air and sunshine always helps.
Best of luck. Take care.

There are many kinds of depression, and some need to be treated with medication. But one of the most common reasons for depression is being too focused on oneself. Focusing on disappointments and set-backs, self-pity, focusing on your own failures, and feeling self-hatred. The best way to pull yourself out of that is to stop thinking about you! Go out of your way to do something kind for someone else. Visit someone who's lonely. Feed someone who's hungry and homeless. Volunteer somewhere. Do something selfLESS and you'll feel much better about yourSELF.

Yes,I have some suggestions that will help. Your question is not stupid at all. In fact it is an intelligent question. We all get depressed at times. First thing to do is to start counting your blessings. I start with thanking God for all the things that I have, like my eyes to see with, ears to hear with. Than I thank Him for the health that I still have and I keep looking for more in order to get at least 10 or more. you can be grateful for family members, brothers, sisters , friends and so on. And if you do not know your Savior and Redeemer Jesus the Christ you can get to know Him. You will see life much more positively, once you try these. God bless you with sunshine in your life.

Practice smiling. It's virtually impossible to feel depressed when your smiling. The more you do it, the less often you'll feel bummed.
If you can set yourself a schedule and increase the frequency a little each week, you'll find yourself feeling decidedly better before long.

I went thru this for two yrs. I was in a verk dark place. I refused to venture out of the house. Crying spells were frequent and endless. But I had to conquer this thru the following means. I forced myself to get out off bed as soon as I wake up. Lingering thoughts will bring on depression. I keep myself busy by involving myself with friends. We went for walks. When you are busy, there's no time to feel depressed. I listen to upbeat music instead of the melancholic ones. I encouraged family and friends to visit me. I called them on the phone often. I don't go out and expect to make friends. I went out and make friends. I got involved in church activities. I pray to God to help me bear my burdens.

well, if your lookin for something free to do, i suggest doing something you really like and r good at. Get on with your life, wat ever the case is, don't let it get u down.
If i were you i would talk to someone you trust, like a parent, best friend, whoever it may be... because if you let this depression build up inside of you, you could get hurt.
Most teens lead to suicide because they let all their anger, depression, and stress build up in side and dont do anything about it!!!
SO DO SOME THING WAT EVER IT IS!!!

Seek Jesus and He will heal you. No, this is not from some fanatic. Accept Jesus and confess your sins to Him, not to any man. Pray to Him and seek His acceptance and you will be saved. This is fact, not fiction. Go some place by yourself and get on your knees and pray to God Almighty by the authority of Jesus and He will hear you. God Bless.
