I notice the democrates are calling for Hassett to step down as speaker of the house. I remember Gerry Stubbs & his behavior with a page. He did lost his chairmenship for 5 years but he was still a congressmen. After 5 years he was given a more powerfull chairmenshp. the speaker was by the name ,Tip Oneil (D) Mass. Gerry Stubbs (D) Mass. Barney Frank (D) Mass useing his driver & pages for pimps, again Tip Oneil speaker. Is this a double standard?

Anya mystica; my point is that all three broke house rule but only one is being punished. Tip was not even asked to step down like hassett.

Listen. Liberals will bash anyone who doesn't agree with them but sweep their scandal ridden past under the carpet and brush it off. There's not reasoning with these people. Its disgusting

An alternative explanation is: politics.

The Republicans were elected on a morality platform, so they should definitely be held to a higher standard. That being said, Schadenfreude is human nature. It looks as if the Democrats will take the House in the current mid-term elections. When that happens, expect the Republicans to be outraged over any infraction which they themselves commited with impunity when they were in power.

Once you look past your ideology, you'll realize realpolitik trumps everything else.

I know what you mean!!!! Even worse, anyone remember the "young" male escort WH scandal of summer '89 with Senior @ the helm!!! Since when did perversion become a necessary political trait...wait, since mankind created politics....Depending on who's in control, then it may or not be a double standard.
