None at all. Those who speak out against gay marriage are really bigoted but too weak to come out and say it.

The gay marriages that have taken place in MA haven't harmed anyone. And I think you're right about the "sanctity" of marriage...it's long gone, thanks to the heterosexuals who get married on a whim and divorce the next day, a week or months later.

Freedom of/from religion sounds good on paper, but it is far from the case. Until it was banned by the Pope in the 10th century same-sex marriage was accepted world wide, it still is in many countries. That ban shaped European law, and, by derivation, U.S. law. St. Paul's injunction against non-procreational sex is still reflected in the fact that oral or anal sex between spouses is illegal in most states and for all members of the military. Marriage didn't even become sanctified until the Catholics so declared it, (I think that was in the 6th century, but I could be wrong) In most Pagan cultures it was considered a business contract, and negotiated as such. Lifelong hetero monogamy is just one form of the many types of marriage that have been practiced throughout history, and it's one of the rarer and least success full forms at that, hence the divorce rate to which you refer. To deny gay people the same protections under the law as straight people because their lifestyle violates the Laws of the Bible is a clear case of Congress making a Law which Recognizes and Respects One Religion to the Exclusion of All Others.

I'm so glad to see sane, rational people answering this question.
Gay marriage was legalized in Canada in 2005, and the sky didn't fall. Children didn't suffer. Fragile Christians didn't swoon. It was a happy day for acceptance across the nation, and I, for one, was proud that this country could see that freedom should be for all, not just for some. Like former Prime Minister said (and I'm paraphrasing) "You can't cherry-pick rights."

Narorw minded bigots will tell you that MY marring my partner of 5 years will interfere with the "sanctity" of their marriage. But in fact the divorce rate of these same people interefers with the validity of MY relationship! I can't even get health insurance for my own children because my partner is the main bread winner in the house with the insuranc epolicy. So who is interfering with whom I ask you???

Absolutely nothing to anyone....a gay marriage is ONLY between the two people that love each other only...you are not marrying those that have anything to say about it....And your closest Friends I hope are attending your wedding...Wishing you and your mate happiness.....Please send me a picture of your wedding.

I agree...it would not harm anyone! with the divorce rate the way it is, and infidelity, and people making a mockery of marriage (i.e. Britney Spears' drunken 55 hour Vegas marriage), why should we not have the legal right to get married ourselves? surely we couldn't do any worse?

Bingo !!! I've been asking myself this same question for a few years now. WHO, would we be hurting, if we were to be married...........NO ONE ! We are not looking to 'take anything away' from straight people by being married... all we're looking for, is "rights". The right to make choices in times of need. People marry other people, just to give them "citizenship"..............................how is THAT right.. or 'better', then a 'gay marriage' ??!!?? At least if we (gays / lesbians ) get married... it's out of LOVE !

Actually there are several ways it would BENEFIT society. It would protect children, help to lower HIV/AIDS and other STD transmittion rates, boost the economy (not hugely overall, but definitely for the better), increase the average of kids who graduate high school, lower teen suicide rates, lower court battles over estates of gay/lesbian survivors...
and many more...
