Tylenol as long as the doctor approves it

To my knowledge, Tylenol is the only OTC pain relieft that most OB's recommend. You're friend should talk to OB about the type of pain she is having. It is possible that he may be able to give her something stronger. I know my OB was able to prescribe something for my migraines (but not until I was in the 2nd trimester). He also prescribed Lortabs for my back - however, from what I've read on these they haven't been able to prove that there's no risk to the baby - it's more of a pro outweighting the con sort of thing, therefore, I haven't taken any of those.

Regardless, she NEEDS to discuss this with her OB before taking anything. Most things depend on where she is in the pregnancy and what's causing the pain. The last thing she wants to do it harm her baby.

I wish her luck.

That is a question you need to ask your doctor, here is why, even when people have suggested Tylenol, it is only safe for some women, not everybody can take that. For instance, women with high risk pregnancies are not allowed to take any pain medication. After your doctor has gone through her blood and urine tests she can ask him what can be safe to take for her specific pregnancy. Plus, what kind of pain is she going through that she needs pain killers? If she is in pain she needs to see a doctor!

The only way someone can tell if a medication is safe during pregnancy is to take statistics to see if anything happens. I live in Australia, and am a registered nurse, and the only pain relief we recommend as "no side-effects or adverse events recorded" here is paracetamol - I assume you guys have that over there. Codiene (ie panadiene), has also been shown to have had no adverse reactions, but we generally only recommend that for fairly severe pain. If you are experiencing any pain, you should really see your GP or Dr for a check up.

The only "safe" thing you can take while pregnant for pain is Tylenol. And even if you do that be sure you ask your doctor fisrt just to make sure. Don't take ANYTHING without consulting your doctor first. But usually Tylenol is safe!

If your hardcore addicted then get off of them hardcore...I am an addict, but as soon as I found out I was pregnant I stopped right away. If your going to take them start with lower dose. Sell half of them and break the rest in half and take a half when you are craving more than ever. You should probably be getting advice from your doctor though. Pain Pills can do rough things to that little one if abusing the drug.

Tylenol, as long as it's taken as directed on the package. If the pain she's having is too much for the Tylenol to help, she should go to the doctor. The doctor can actually prescribe something stronger.

tylenol is best choice. But there are some doctors who perscribe narcotics. I'm 28 weeks and on them for a kidney condition. Dr says their fine as long as its not on a regular basis. But dont do anything until you've checked with your doctor.

I would have your friend take some tyelnol. Not the best pain medication but the only safe one as far as Im aware of. If she needs more than that I would have her contact her doctor and see what they can do for her.

Better to be safe than sorry. Hope she feels better.

There are no (ZERO) pain medications approved for us during pregnancy. Many Dr.'s say Tylenol is ok, but the reality is nothing has been approved by the FDA. Also, every drug crosses the placenta. Tell her to contact her Dr.
