In some countries which have laws on racial equality, affirmative action is rendered illegal by a requirement to treat all races equally.

This approach of equal treatment is sometimes described as being "race-blind", in hopes that it is effective against discrimination without engaging in reverse discrimination.

In such countries, the focus tends to be on ensuring equal opportunity and, for example, targeted advertising campaigns to encourage ethnic minority candidates to apply to open jobs etc. This is sometimes described as "positive action", as opposed to "positive discrimination".

So is it time for the USA to catch up to the rest of the world?

Yes, get rid off it.
South Africa had apartheid, and now affirmative action.
It is worse than apartheid and both are wrong.
Go look at the discrimanation, lawless culture, corruption in South Africa and you will be shocked.

The now "communist" government only make laws to make themselves rich and the rest must die like in other African countries . That beautifull 1st world country are now a 3rd world country in a little more than 10 years.

Their government are nothing better then Mugabe of Zimbabwe.
Don't listen to the TV and nedia. Talk to people and go visit it.
Read their newspapers. It is shocking!

Whether the time is right for affirmative action to end is a tough call.

No matter what happens, it must be temporary, since it creates an inequality to replace another one. And people shouldn't be treated differently simply because one person's ancestors had a different social class within society... It must eventually go both ways.

Affirmative action should be ended. People need to be judged individually. not base on a group as a whole. Special rights is not equal rights.

Yes. Racial equality, which means a color-blind society, should be the goal.

A society should judge a man by the content of his character, not the color of his skin.
