Silent Hill, and I don't understand the ending, can someone explain what happend?

They both died at the begining of the movie and they went in to the other world and in the real world the father is trying to find them but they cant because they're already dead

well the girl and her mother at the beginning of the movie died actualy right before they got into silent hill and i believe it was a car wreck they got into. And the whole movie they are in the spirit world and the dad who is searching for them is in the real world and thats why he cant find them in silent hill when he is looking for them.

Personally, I think they slipped into some sort of parallel universe.
