Fill up your gas tank. Note the mileage when full. Drive the car until you have to fill up again. Fill up a second time. Subtract the mileage at the first fill up from the mileage at the second fill up to determine how far you have driven. Divide that distance by the amount of gas (gallons) it took to fill up the second time. That will give you miles per gallon.

Fill an empty gallon jug with a gallon of pure organic olive oil.

are you ready?

Click your odometer so it reads zero, and open your window. Take the gallon jug of olive oil and slowly, every so slowly pour it out as you drive. When the gallon jug is empty, check how many miles you have driven!

Viola! answer solved! if you are hesitant, you can always add or subtract 10 miles to get a better idea.

First, fill your gas tank. Just until the gas stops...don't try to force in additional. Then record your mileage. Drive your car as you normally would. When your tank is empty, fill it up...again, don't force the top off. Record how many gallons of gas it takes to fill up the car. Record your mileage again.

Grab your calculator and divide the number of miles you drove on the 1 tank of gas by the number of gallons of gas it took to fill the tank.... the result is your gas mileage.

You fill your tank up and reset the trip meter. Next time you fill it up, divide the miles on the trip meter by how many gallons of gas you have to buy to fill it. You're a guy, Joe, and you don't know this? ps i'm not.
