I've had my share of brass cleaning aboard ships- thus the number one cleaner had always been Brasso. All you need is a clean cotton cloth, apply a small amount and rub! A small amount as small as a dime will normally clean quite a large surface. To buff, use an old stocking-pantyhose, that should take care of it. If the brass is turning silver......it may just not be brass at all :)

Looking at your answers.........I'd know the guys(girls too) who were in the military, even if they didn't mention it. BRASSO......................best brass cleaner known to man...............you'll be amazed at the results...........GOOD LUCK

if its old cleaner, try getting some new stuff. if it isn't.........try new stuff anyway. and a different brand too. maybe go to Home depot and ask some one for advice for one that would be best.
