dude i got the same exact problem with my sony dvd drive. I've tried installing drivers and all that crap but nothing works. The only program that burns a whole cd is Musicmatch Jukebox. Look for a driver on the internet or just get a new drive. I think we are both screwed, man! Aww...

Go to the device manager and uninstall the drive, then restart the computer. That reloads the drivers, which may have become corrupt.

From what your saying it sounds like your cd rom is in the early stages of failing. I'd buy another one.

by any chance you dont have any virtual drives setup do you? make sure under "my computer" that only one CD drive exists. if there are multiple drives then you need to get rid of them

You may need a new drive. But first, try running all your anti software in safe mode, anti virus, and anti spyware. Sometimes it is virus or malware, etc.

dont listen to these people, it might be dirty but wat id say is uninstall it (itll automatically reinstall itself) but incase not makesure you get drivers downloaded before hand

k but heers the process

my computer (right click) properties, hardware < device manager

you find the drivers uninstall and restart (it SHOULD reinstall itself but makesure you have your drivers ready incase it doesnt and you have to do it manually)

it might actually b goin out but id try this first its less expensive lmao

Ur drive has either become dirty and needs cleaning of its lens or has become useless and needs to be replaced.
