I have a horrible cold right now! I'm 26 weeks pregnant, and I'm not sure if the Afrin I've been taking is safe. Has anyone else taken this? I only take it at nighttime so that I can sleep...I'm having the hardest time sleeping without it!! Does anyone know? Is Afrin safe? Should I do something else? I plan on calling my OB but for the time being, I don't want to do anything that will harm the baby.

I would not take Afrin without consulting your doctor. Afrin is addictive as well because it makes you feel good for a while then you get plugged again. My mom has used it for a long time.....and now she has a hard time smelling things. Don't use it, try a saline solution instead. Don't use ANYTHING without talking to your doc though......seriously!

I had a bad cold 3 weeks ago, it lasted a week, I had a hard time sleeping and my nose was congested all the time. I didn't want to take anything, even if it was safe to take it. Look in the Afrin box and see, if it sayd pregnant women and children as your doctor, I wouldn't take it until I ask my doctor if it is safe. The only thing that I did have was a few cough drops because my throat was kind of itchy and that took care of it but other than that I didn't want to take anything just in case! Remember the cold will last for a little bit onyl. I also drank lots of tea, chamomile tea is pretty good and drinking something warm at night helped me sleep a little bit better. If I were you I would stop taking it. Your baby will be safe if you don't take anything for the cold, remember he is protected by the amniotic sack.

Yes, as long as it is taken after the first trimester. Which you are in your second, so you're in the clear. But it is not recommended that you take it for more than 3 or 4 days at a time. You still may want to ask your OB/GYN, just to let him/her know that you have a cold and if there is anything else that he/she recommends.

Pregnancy—Oxymetazoline has not been studied in pregnant women. Before using this medicine, make sure your doctor knows if you are pregnant or if you may become pregnant.
