Ok first of all encounters with the paranormal are very, how can I say it?, unnerving. I have had many encounters and have seen what i believe to be a ghost on several occasions in a couple different locations. My last encounter was at my wifes childhood home and though I did not see a "ghost" I did hear quite the conversation between two men and a female in my room I also felt one of them sit on the bed. when I mentioned it the next morning My wife and her family were shocked because they have had experiences before but never to the degree that I had and had not told me about the "haunting" in the house. By the way the house was built in the 1700's just before the revolution and had the same family in it for at least 9 generations until the 1930s. and the family members that passed were buried just up the road. so yes I have... more times than i cared to and some encounters have scared the Hell out of me...

I have had an experience of apparition once in my life about 15 years ago.
Note, I say 'apparition' not necessarily a ghost. For it could have been paralax in the eyeball or something. Perhaps some radiation left over in the eye from the day in a perfectly pitch black room where I was laying down to sleep.
The thing that leaves me wondering however is the experience I had in my nervous system when the mind at least was seeing what I thought I saw. Perhaps the imagination kicks into overdrive and the proverbial chill of death feeling ran my spine like a cold spike.
it was a pitch black (i mean PERFECTLY DARK with no ambient light what so ever) room where I was laying on a couch. about to drift of to sleep and staring somewhere off in a far corner toward the ceiling.
I noticed a white blob kind of like a disembodied head with a barely noticeable radience. It gives me chills every time I think of it. I have the same creepy feeling in my spine as i write this now just reminiscing it...
the white blob indeed appeared to be much like a face on its 90degree lopsided to the left side of head side. floating around slowly with a slight hint of tail which seemed almost a partially severed spinal column perhaps. I watched as it seemed to propel forward and rotate itself to the right to see where it was going, then double back and shoot forward in tiny 6-12 inch strides at a time. whirling about, looking about.
The real scary part of it was that while I was justifying its existence in my mind as some sort of phenom I was experiencing i noticed it move behind a rack that was in the middle of the room. even though the room is pitch black, i saw the shadow of the rack when the apparation moved behind it from my vantage. This is what sent me a fresh wave of curious terror that I can only describe as being 'horrified'.
The thing kept moving, doing its lopsided, poke along and look dance along the cieling of the back wall. It hit the corner and turned my way...then rapidly propelling itself my direction. The chill grew deeper inside me. and as I saw it beginning to loom towards me, in my horror, I instinctually quit breathing perfectly still for about 20 seconds. Then I blinked at it was gone. No trace to where it may have moved.
This was an experience of apparation before me. Perhaps nothing real and just some sort of radiation in my eye and my imagination going to town to produce such a lucid hallucination, but the journey was also quite psychological, and i learned a couple of things about myself.

I saw a ghost before, it was a little boy and it made me feel like I was seeing an old childhood friend or someone I knew... so maybe I did know him this life or in a previous one.

I didn't seen one, but I've done some investigating (like on Ghost Hunters) and I got some really good sounds on audio tape. It was very chilling to listen to these tapes. It really gave me goosebumps!

Yes, I have seen one before. It was very out of body like, you see it but at the same time you don't.

Yes, it was like looking at film that had been double exposed. It had the physical features of the room I was in, with the spirit clear and yet not quite taking physical form.

I want to say yes but the cynical part of me would think I'm crazy.

Oh and if I did say yes, I might also say that it wasn't scary at all. It was pretty comforting. But then again I didn't.
