IF remember "IF" time travel was possible would it be possible for someone to go back in time and kill their past self? for example "back to the future" the movie, if morty was to kill himself. i dont want an answers like "time travel is not possible" remember in this situation time travel is possible. if you can give me a decent answer as to why it would be possible or not possible you may consider yourself a genius or a freak which ever i choose. and in conclution i would like to say......"burst your head off thinking about this hahahahahaha!!!"

no, because if you went back in time to kill yourself then that means that there is no future self to go back in time to kill yourself.

:):) well it's a good question. I think so. however I also think the instant you killed your self, you the killer from your future would fade away in none existence. This is because you would no longer be there. It would be imposible for you to be there(after the death)_ as there would be nothing beyond your death. I don't buy the paradox situation this would supposely cause.

Hummmmmmmmm this may be the reason so many people just go off and don't come back. We used to think they fell o fthe flat edg of the sea:):)
If I crossed the Georgia border at 7pm I could arrive in Alabama at 6;01pm same date.
Traveling 3000 miles an hour I could leave Georgia at 7pm and arrive in California at 8pm Georgia time, but 5pm:California time traveling the distance in one hour later but arriving there 2 hours earlier.
The above is an example of distance and time .

Give me some Aleve I have a migraine from this one.
I can say this as a person over the hill. If I had known what I would have to go through in the next 68 years I would have killed myself at age 8. So I am hoping that time travel would never be possible or I would not be able to sit here and answer this question with a migraine.

Time travel is a fact and has happened in a laboratory but it was only for 1 millionth of a second. They managed to send a particle through a solid medium and it arrived 1/1,000,000th of a sec before it left. Freaky but it is true.

As for traveling back into time to kill yourself or your parents before you were born, this would create a paradox and the only way it could happen is if you shift to an alternate reality where you are no longer born or alive. You would still be there but your "alter" self would be dead.

Killing yourself in the same reality could not be possible because if you kill yourself, you would not be around to travel back in time to commit the act and thus you would live. That is the paradox and paradoxes can't be allowed or the whole space time continuum would unravel and chaos would reign instead of order. A universe of chaos would destroy itself in no time.

There's about 80 years of science fiction which addresses this question. There's no single consensus.

Depends on what assumptions you make when you decide time travel is possible. Is there only one time line (the one in which you obviously didn't kill yourself) or is there an infinity of possible futures emanating from each point in time? Then a future self from an alternate future could probably kill you and create a different future.

All statements concerning elements of the empty set are inheritly true. Consider:

All people that are both over 10 feet tall and weigh less than 3 ounces are named Bob.

All people that are both over 10 feet tall and weight less than 3 ounces are named Carol.

Both statements are true because they are preconditioned on describing things that do not exist. Thus, you can make any claims you like about people who go back in time as the set of people who have gone back in time is empty.

Thus, the following statements are both equally true:

Everyone that has gone back in time has ended up killing one of their ancestors.

No one who has ever gone back in time has successfully killed one of their ancestors.

OK, now to try and answer you question the way you wanted it answered.

Let's try to alleviate the paradox. The paradox lies in the assumption that you went back in time. We further assume that you kill yourself prior to travelling back in time. Thus, the paradox is created because you have stopped yourself from travelling back in time to kill yourself.

The simplest solution is for the macro quantum state of the universe to settle back into a state where the paradox is never created. So, even though you really did go back in time, and even though you really did kill yourself, the universe can't stand to have itself in an indecisive state of whether you are alive or dead. So, it chooses to go back further in your past and "kill you" by sending you down a different path of probabilities that didn't lead to you using the time machine.

And, I don't need you to tell me whether I'm a genius or a freak. I know that I've always been a little of both, but it still pays the bills.

Yeah you can kill your "young self" but then you'd immediately cease to exist, which means you never would've gone back in time in the first place to kill yourself. Get it?
It is a paradox, however the real paradox is as follows:
Suppose you went back in time and killed your biological grandfather before he met your grandmother, as a result one of your parents would not have been born therefore you would never have been born, therefore you never would've gone back in time after all. In that case, your grandfather would still be alive and you would have been born, allowing you to go back in time to kill your grandfather, and so on. So what this means is that each possibility negates itself. That is a real paradox.

Let's talk quantum mechanics here...if you were to commit suicide in the past, you could hardly travel back there to do it, so you have a paradox. The answer, if you want to 'burst your head off thinking about this' is very clear.

Yes it is possible to go back and kill yourself............along with the rest of the universe. If you went back in time and did it, you would create a paradox. If you went back and killed yourself, then you would not exist in the future to go back to kill yourself, so who went back and killed you? This time frame would repeat itself until it resolves itself, which it won't. Hence, the end of time itself.

well, i can only say if i'm able to travel back in time, and accidentally kill myself, i would immediately have cut off my existence.
as in the future where everyone know of my existence will cease to continue, they will continue to live on with their life but with little memories of my existence or think they're just dreaming about some guy call Ben, or someone may prefer to call it a 'de javu'.
thts my best answer i guess... because if one of my friend did travelled back in time and killed himself, there's no way i will know about his existence, which explain why i'm having dream about someone near somewhere, and i'd like to use it to explain my de javu experience.
also, i believe time travel is already happening, because logically thinking, men can only travel forward in time, therefore if someone has ever traveled in time we wont see them in our lifetime anymore. they're stuck in the future!
and if i keep an open mind about men traveling back in time, it would allow me to believe why some psychic are having 'view' about things to happen. (like i've mentioned earlier, this is due to someone went back in time and accidentally change the pass and alterred our current time event, and thus cut off his own existence)

hope my own opinion helps~
