Pre-paid wireless is a good thing if you can use different carriers in your area and compare the service quality of each. But I don't think they do that. A regular cell phone locks you into a contract for at least I think two years now. You can also do the prepaid phone for different providers as long as you get a phone from each of them. But if you find one that really stands out for you, you may want to sign a contract with them and they'll probably give you a free phone for signing up. Good luck.

Tracfone. No monthly bills, pay as you go -which is great! Sure there are some drawbacks - but if you just use the cell for calling on emergencies and have-to instances, a Tracfone is all you really need.

I love my tracfone. The only person who needs to get in touch with me if I'm away from a land-line is my son and I don't use my tracfone to chat away with my friends. It's just not worth it to me to pay a huge bill each month for minutes I'll never use. It may not have all the bells and whistles the other phones do but I was glad to have it when hurricane Rita came through, I had no problem using it to keep in touch with my family in California.

It depends on how you will use it. If you use it a lot, then regular cell phone is better. If you only want it for emergencies, and will not use it otherwise, then tracfone will be cheaper.

Tracfone is better for old people(I apologize to any senior citizens offended), but not for teens or business. Better for people who don't talk everyday. You aren't forced to buy minutes when you don't need them, but when you do, they can get up into the 30 cents/minute range.
