FlaChic, have a stick up ur a**? i know how to make decisions, but i want to know from experienced people who are attending, have attended or are going to attend medschool to see whats best. i dont care for the petty advice from a nurse whose jealous because she couldnt make it to medschool. every nurse that i know ask me why dont i just become a nurse like them, like they were jealous that i wanted to go farther with my life than they did. i bet u made a mistake and a doctor yelled at you and now u have grudges against anything associated with doctors. get over yourself and stop trying to pull others down into the gutter with you.

Biology would probably allow you to get a better GPA, but I think that a chemistry or biochemistry major would help you get through your MCATs.

The bulk study Biology
The problem if plans change or you dont make it
Study chemistry sets you apart and more employment opportunities
in case.
Other choices
Allied Health - nursing, Medical Technology etc.
Gives you an introduction and a leg up in medical knowledge
got a job if plans change or need employment while in med school

Business while taking the needed Science courses for the MCAT
A recent recommendation by several Dr. friends
A sad commentary on the state of medicine

Biology and chemistry are the most popular, at least they were at the college I went to. I would talk to the career office at your school before you schedule your classes, and see what they recommend. Most schools have a "pre-med" program of some kind, some have a set schedule of classes, others let you pick and choose from a greater variety. My suggestion is to take some introductory classes your first year and see what you like.

I would also suggest talking to some current pre-med and medical students, and see what their experience has been. Your college's alumni office may be able to get you in touch with recent graduates also.

biology or chemistry depending on what type of doctor you wish to be. I am in school to be an oral surgeon and my major in college was biology. If you are going into pharmacy, however, chemistry is your best bet. just make sure whatever you do that you take 1 year of biology, 1 year of chemistry, 1 year of organic chemistry, 1/2 year of microbiology, 1 year of physics, 1 year of calculus, 1/2 year of molecular biology, and 1/2 year of biochemistry. These are the newest standards for medical schools; you need these under your belt to even apply. 1 year equals two semesters, whereas 1/2 year is just one semester. I would major in whatever subject is fulfilled with these requirements in addition to your general education requirements.

Study what interests you. Communication may be as important or more important than science, depending on your specialty. You will need a solid foundation in the sciences, but this will be the last opportunity you may have to study other fields. Talk to a pre-med advisor to ensure you meet all admission requirements, but don't lose yourself in the process.

Work on getting a Bachelor of Science Degree, then you have to go to school for the actual medical courses.Good luck. My brother is doing this right now. He has been in school for 6 years and still going.

biology or chemistry is what my college recommends. and both would be good ideas.
techinically you can major in whatever you wanted, but you just have to fulfill the requirements of med school. also, i've heard being a music major is pretty good for med school considering the amount of self discipline that goes into it.

It depends where you live, If you live in UK or Europe you must enroll as an undergradute, if you want to be doctor, in MMedSc or MBBS program. If you are not sure and only want to try it for few years then go to BMedSci after which you can go to school for MMedSci or MBBS, these two degrees are equal to (or sometime graded heavier then) MD in United States. If you're in South America or Asis you must enroll in MBBS, a six year program or you can go in BSc and later go to graduate school for MBBS. In United States, you can do your BSc in Biology and Chemistry (note: it must be pre-proffesional, as their are two kinds of BSc's, one for teaching and one to pursue MD) after you can take MCAT and go to garduate school for MD. If you're in Australia, you must enroll in MBBS program after recieveing your BMedSc in order to beceome a doctor. Australia also has a special program if you qualify which is the heaviest graded and ranked doctor degree in the world known as MBChB(Bachelors in Medicine, Bachelors in Surgery, Bachelors in Medical Science), which is equal to MBBS or MD and later to get more experience you can get MMChM(Masters in Medicine, Masters in Surgey, and Masters in Medical Science). In Africa, you get your BSc in Biology and Chemistry (Double major) and then go to pursue MBBS.
