I have lucid dreams often; usually close to 2 a week sometimes 1. I've only been able to induce a lucid dream once (close a few times) using different methods. I'm sure you've come across some in your research.
The one time I succeeded, I had woken up early then went to bed. (Wake Back to Bed or WBTB) I laid in bed very still and watched lights moving around behind my eye lids as I repeated to myself that I was dreaming. (Mnemonic Induction of Lucid Dream or MILD)I don't know how long it was, but my body suddenly felt pressed down on by the sleep paralysis. I didn't move and kept telling myself that I was dreaming. As images and shapes moved around in my mind, it was like I went through a quick tunnel. (Wake Initiated Lucid Dream or WILD) Then I was outside. I saw my dream appear around me. I had been wanting to fly, which I kept forgetting to in past lucid dreams, and I did. I was woken up soon after. So far, that's the only one I've flown in.
My advice:
1.Keep an open mind- I know what's worked for me but people have said it wasn't possible. And methods are just names for different techniques people have used successfully and quite possibly not so successfully.
2. Do reality checks often no matter where you are. Try something easy like looking at a clock or small text more than once to see if it changes- sometimes you need more confidence to do other things. Can't speak for anyone esle, but I tried to fly in a dream for a reality check and it didn't work- which reminds me, do at least 2 reality checks.
3. Keeping a dream journal is very helpful. It's common to read that you need to remember so many dreams before you can lucid dream--not true. I've have several before I had good dream recall so don't be discouraged when you see that.
and 4. Read what you can on it. Keep trying suggestions even if they don't work at first.
Best of luck to you- I mean it. I love lucid dreaming; it's an incredible experience.

I had a lucid dream when i was in Iraq, and I was dreaming that I went to the internet cafe on camp and when I left the internet cafe i noticed I forgot my rifle and then I noticed I forgot the rest of my gear also, and then I relized there was no way i could forget all my gear and I thought I was dreaming so i punched a trailer really hard and it didnt hurt, so then I took control of my dream and I went to this hot medics room and we started to get in on, and then I woke up, but that was the first and last time I ever had a lucid dream. They're pretty amazing if you ever have one though.

Stay calm. Everything cames with praticizing? Do you think Dalai Lama was born ready? Why are you, Elizabeth, so hard whith your own poor little and inocent soul? Be gentle whith your self, whith your aims, like they are little delicate violet plants and flowers of the Delights Garden. You are meditating , relaxed to gone asleep and dream. Persist! It's one good way. Don't hurry, spiritual things are for be glad, not to hurry! Be optimist! To know what you will NOT dream is a gigantic path, how can't you see that? Most people lives theirs entire lifes and just don't remember ANY dream, or almost know FOR WHAT A DREAM IS NEEDED like YOU do!!!!! Be grateful! BEFORE TO ARGUE, SAY THANK YOU. When , after being patient for many time you will know until what to dream, what you dreamed, and, for God sake, until why do you need that. I love you. Thank you for the beautiful opportunity! Namaste! Om Shanti! Sleep in Holly Prajapitta Baba arms and have nice and enlightning dreams of any species, "cause what means is not the dream, but the dreamer! smoothoperatorneveraboddysatwa!

I have used lucid dreaming to change the pattern of certain recuring dreams. In this way, I resolved the issue and the need for that dream to recur.
Most dreams are recurring. We just don't remember...unless we make an effort to.

I sometimes practice a very minor form. I leave the lights on and only go into a light sleep.
