Kuba says that when you do the same thing to the top and the bottom of a fraction you get an equivalent fraction. Is Kuba right, or is it possible to do the same thing to the top and the bottom of a fraction and not get an equivalent fraction? Explain.

Please help! I have a few more questions, so if someone would like to give me their e-mail or something, that would be great!

Kuba is wrong.
For instance, add 1 to the top and bottom of 2/3 and you get 3/4.
2/3 does not equal 3/4. Similarly, you cannot subtract the same non-zero number from top and bottom, 2/3 (subtract one from top and bottom) does not equal 1/2.

You CAN multiply or divide top and bottom by the same number (as long as it isn't zero) and get an equivalent fraction.
2/3 = 4/6 = 6/9 = 8/12 etc.

Kuba is right... sometimes. If you multiply or divide the top and bottom by the same number (other than 0) you get the same result.

example: 6/15, divide top and bottom by 3, you get 2/5. This is how you simplify fractions.

However, adding and subtracting the same thing won't work.

Kuba is right (if he's talking about multiplying; not adding)

When you multiply a fraction by something like x/x where both the top and the bottom of x/x are the same, that is just the same as multiplying by one, and so therefore you do not change the value of your original fraction.

Nope. Kuba is wrong.

This only applies to multiplication and division.
Adding or subtracting numbers will give a totally different fraction.
Also, doing anything involving exponents will give a different answer (squaring, square roots, etc.)

kuba sounds right. go with yes because whatever you do to the top you have to do to the bottom :)
